Obituary of Cathie Tompkins (Smith)

DIXON- Cathie L. Tompkins (Smith), 72, formerly of Sterling, passed away peacefully at Dixon Rehabilitation Nursing Home, in Dixon, IL, with the care of Serenity Hospice. Cathie was born August 1, 1948 in Chicago, the daughter of James and Myrtle (Spencer) Riggs. She was married to Robert L. Smith “Smitty” and then Lawrence “Bud” Tompkins. She was employed as a med-tech at Augustana Home in Sterling for 20 years, before she retired. She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt and loving christian woman. She was a member of Harvest Time Bible Church, Rock Falls. Survivors include, one daughter, Dawn (Lee) Sandrock of Sterling, IL; one son, Peter (Kayla) Smith of Wisconsin; one son-in-law, Bradley (Missy) Adams of Morrison; one step-daughter, Tammy Smith (Albertson) of Missouri; two step-sons, Robert (Traci) Smith, Daniel (Lara) Smith of Texas; two brothers, Richard (Emma) Riggs of Texas, Robert (Rhonda) Riggs of Wisconsin; ten grandchildren, Billy R. (Lynn) Mills, Alan L. Sandrock, Felecia (Vince) Fisher, Arabella Adams, Evangelina Adams, Arianna Adams, Ian Adams, Kyler Adams, Jaidyn Smith, Kaidyn Smith; three step-grandchildren; 24 great grandchildren; six nieces and nephews and several great. She was preceded in death by her parents; three husbands; daughter, Mary (Derrick) O’brien; one brother, Gerald Riggs; and granddaughter, Jamie Lynn Mills; one step-son David L. Smith; and one nephew James Riggs. Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday May 22, 2021 at Schilling Funeral Home and Cremation of Sterling with Pastor Dalmus Meeks, officiating. Visitation will be from 1PM -3PM prior to the Celebration of Life at the funeral home. Cremation Rites have been accorded. A memorial has been established.
