To the Family and Friends of Kevin,
This message is to let his family and friends know that we have not forgotten him.
His Shipmate's from the Navy Reserve Unit - 4th MAW MED, NAS Glenview, IL. will be getting together for a reunion on 19 Nov. 2016.
As a group it has been 20+ years since we were in the Reserves and have all gone our separate ways. We are meeting at a restaurant to tell sea stories, relive the “good old days” and catch up on our lives.
To honor Kevin and our shipmate Steve Barrett who recently passed away. I will place an American Flag draped over two chairs to remember them.
Our Unit was close, we cared for each other and we formed some long lasting relationships. These men and women will always be a Navy Hospital Corpsman aka “Doc” who have served their fellow Sailors and Marines.

My deepest and most heartfelt condolences to Beth and the entire Hummel family upon the loss of Kevin. He was one of my first Shipmates when I affiliated with the Navy Reserve in 1986. He was a true mentor and his guidance, assistance, and advice helped to set me on the right course as I started my career with the Navy. He was a mentor in every possible way when I joined Naval Reserve Fourth Marine Aircraft Wing Medical at Naval Air Station Glenview. He was a Sailor who enjoyed being a Sailor and helping his Shipmates in any and every way that he could. His affable and gregarious personality and spirit added so very much to unit morale and espirit de corps and naturally drew unit members to him. I am so sorry that I could not be there with and for him as his life came to a close. Although it is now many years ago, I will remember him always for the ways that he touched my life; I am a better man for having the privilege to have known Kevin. Thank you, Shipmate... I'll be seeing you.

To Beth and the Hummel Family, I would like to express my condolences to the family. I knew Kevin from the Navy Reserves. We served as Corpsmen with the 4th Marine Air Wing – Medical at NAS Glenview, IL. In the Reserves we developed a real camaraderie after working together for so long Fond Memories of Kevin included Camping in Northern Wisconsin in December with Cold Weather Training and working in the desert of Twentynine Palms, CA. Those were ‘great times.’ Doc, your “Tour of Duty” is done and it is time to rest! We will miss you brother.

To the family of Doc Hummel, On behalf of my wife Cindy and I, I would like to express our deepest sympathy at the notice of Doc's passing. I knew him for about the last 5 years. In that time he has proven to be a good friend. I admired his knowledge that he shared in the area of First Responder training. Doc fought the couragous fight with this cancer battle.
