  Charles W. Hollaway, age 85 of Ottawa, died Tuesday, May 9th, 2023, at Ottawa OSF Hospital.

  Chuck was born in Sterling, IL on August 15, 1937 to Thomas E. and Lila E. (Forristall) Hollaway.  He was baptized at St. John’s Lutheran Church shortly afterwards.  Chuck graduated from Sterling High School in 1955, was in the National Guard from 1959 to 1965 and was Assistant Manager at Farm and Fleet in Sterling for several years. He then accepted a promotion to become manager of Farm and Fleet in Ottawa where he stayed for 10 years.  He then worked for General Electric in Marseilles, IL. for 29 years.

  Chuck loved muscle cars and had many, including a ’68 GTO, ’68 Firebird, and a ’69 Corvette Stingray convertible. His last big engine car was a ’74 Pontiac Grandville Convertible with a 455ci engine.  That car is still in the family.  He also loved luxury vehicles and had numerous Cadillacs including an Eldorado convertible.

  Chuck’s hobby was obtaining small collectibles like pickle jars, brides baskets, depression glass dishes, etc.

  Surviving are his brother Robert (Joyce) of Sterling, his sister Debra Sippel of East Peoria, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, and brothers Dale, Loren, and Donald.

  There will be no visitation, but there will be a graveside funeral service at 11:00 on Saturday, May 13, 2023 at Oak Knoll Cemetery north of Sterling where he will be buried beside his parents.  Arrangements are being made by Schilling Funeral Home.

   Memorials may be made to Christ Lutheran School in Sterling.
