LORENA H. GREER
STERLING - Lorena "Rena" H. Greer, 92, died Sunday, March 31, 2013 at Good Neighbor Care of Sterling. She was employed as a secretary for Bi-County Special Education for 20 years.
Lorena was born November 4, 1920 in Kentucky, the daughter of James and Caroline (Kendall) Simpson and grew up in Cairo, IL. She married Wardell Greer on November 18, 1939 in Cairo. He preceded her in death on December 22, 1978. Lorena was a member of First Baptist Church in Sterling.
Survivors include two daughters, Joan (Keith) Schriner of Lanark, Rebecca (Michael) McBride of McKinney, TX; one son, Stephen (Becky) Greer of Toledo, OH; one brother, J.R. (Anne) Simpson of Cairo; seven grandchildren, Nicholas (Shay) Papoccia of Lakemoore, Matthew (Jennifer) Papoccia of Belvidere; Lyndsey (Kevin) Hamlin of Little Elm, TX; Jamon (Dianna) McBride of Leeton, Australia, Shelbylynn (Charles) Adair of Blacksburg, VA, Kathryn Greer of Toledo, OH, Jonathan Greer of Toledo, OH; five great-grandchildren, Cora Pyse, Cecilia Papoccia, Brooklyn Papoccia, Molly Papoccia, Landry Sue Hamlin; three nieces, Diane Papasifakis of Cairo, Judith (Danny) Poole of La Center, KY, Nancy Newton of Plano, TX; and special friends Mary Lou Maple and her family.
She was also preceded in death by a sister, Luella; one grandson, Christopher Greer; two nephews, Phillip Simpson and Michael Merseal.
Services will be held at 11 AM, Saturday, April 6, 2013 at First Baptist Church with Reverend John Kermott, officiating. Burial will be at the Oak Knoll Memorial Park, Sterling. Visitation will be from 9:30-11 AM, Saturday, prior to services at the Church.
A memorial has been established to the First Baptist Church in Sterling.
