Dear Dorothy and family,
So many years have are gone, we knew each other in 4-H in Rock Falls. Marilyn Helms, Nancy Welch, Helen Gartner, the Wide-a-Wake Workers and Mrs Droste our leader. Such warm memories....the square dances with the guy's clubs. I am sad to hear of Dick's passing. We knew each other also so long ago. The Cliftons lived across the street from the Scotts on West 5th St. Dick, Carol and David were friends, Dorothy and Warren played Pinochle with the Scotts for many years. I was raised by the Scotts, that's why the difference in names. Please know my thoughts and prayers are with you and yours. I wish you peace and warm memories.

I'm so sorry to hear about Dick. I have taken care of Dick in the hospital many many times and have walked out of his room laughing. I loved his sense of humor so much. He was a very nice man and always so thankful for the care he received from me. I personally enjoyed his hugs and kisses and the " I love ya". I would joke with him in the morning when he was in rehab with Pam. He was a great family and loved his wife and children beyond words. He was so happy when I finally met his wife. He said she was the love of his life. What a lucky man! My heart and prayers go out to you his family and know that you will cherish his memories. I am blessed that he touched my life. Thank you. We are all thinking of you and the great summer memories, Growing up it was always an exciting time when the Clifton's would be coming to the cottage. We would spend a lot of time swimming, fishing and of course eating. The river makes you eat more was the tale...we would spend time going on excursions investigating the island and everything it has to offer. When Taylor and Allyson were small and come to the cottage they also spent time with Dick and Dort. Taylor used to think the golf cat was the greatest thing and would always hitch a ride with Dick...even if it was only a few feet.
Enjoy the memories there are certainly lots of them.
Sincerely,
Penny-Sue, Bill, Taylor and Allyson

Dear Dort and Family, It’s hard for us to express our sorrow at this time. Dick Clifton was a kind and generous man. He is gone from this earth, but not from our hearts. We will always cherish our memories of our times with him and all of you, his loving family. We feel so fortunate that we walked past your cottage on “the Island” that morning so many years ago and stopped to talk. Wonderful friendships began that day and will never end. Love, Donny and Carolyn

So sorry this sad news. Uncle Dick was a character with finesse. He always knew what to say, when to say it. He had the ability to make one feel important, at home, and listen to your concerns. He loved to party, get-together with anyone at anytime. All you had to do was call Uncle Dick and he would be there with Aunt Dort. Never was he without Aunt Dort. They were like 2 peas in a pod! He always melted with kids around. Seems to miss being their ages. He will be truly missed by all that had the opportunity to cross paths with him. RIP Uncle Dick - We love you bunches!!!

This summer was my first to be "retired" and I went with Dort and friends to Tincap, Ontario to buy strawberries to make into jelly/jam.
When I got back to the island Dick (the dutiful husband) helped Dort to make her jelly. Afterwards, he was concerned because I had never made jelly/jam so he came to our cottage and climbed our stairs (not an easy task) and helped me blend the strawberries to just the right consistency for my freezer jelly. I will NEVER forget that afternoon as he stood in my kitchen to help me clean those berries and make that freezer jam. Dicky, I love you and you have been so much of my "Canadian" life - Love you always, Wilma

Dick was a swell guy. I remember him as a neighbor when we both went to RFHS, then in later years we were neighbors again on Broadway. Both him and Dorothy were great neighbors. I'm so glad that i got to visit with him on our class reunion this past September. His prescence will certainly be missed.

So sorry to hear about your loss. Thoughts and prayers to you all. Dick was truly one of my favorite people I have ever crossed paths with. He went from stranger to friend within minutes of meeting people. An admirable trait most can only hope to have. I am positive he will tread effortlessly in his new home even if the snow may be a**hole deep....he will be missed by all who were fortunate enough to be touched by his great life.
