I will always have special memories of both Aunt Doris and Uncle Harold. The first time I remember meeting Aunt Doris was on the Rock River in Illinois. It was the first family reunion of the Morris family in 1967. The original "family vacation" (I still say we could have written that movie based on the events of that trip) where we drove the family station wagon to Arizona to get Aunt Etha (Morris) Uncle Gordy and cousin Jimmy, my mom Judy Wallis (Morris), dad Mike Wallis, my two sisters Sharon and Wendy and I driving cross country to meet the Morris side of the family.
Yes four kids, four adults and the luggage on top of the station wagon.
Uncle Harold took us out on the family boat to an island where we he had a rope swing that you held onto and jumped into the river. Aunt Doris would always laughing about how everyone would make crazy dives into the river. Of course we all cut up our feet and Aunt Doris would meet us with a towel and clean the mud out of our feet. Same trip learned to water ski for the first time. Still here "This is the river Ronal Reagan was a life guard at."
Then of course there was the huge hide and seek party at Grandma Mench's farm house. Had all the Aunts and Uncles, cousins from the Morris family there. Aunt Joyce (Morris) McMurry, Uncle Jim, Uncle Jesse (Morris) and Aunt Lois. Boy what a fun time. There was always loads of wonderful food and memories. I can never forget Uncle Harold trying to scare the crap out of everybody coming through grandma's front door with a cousin on his shoulder and a sheet over his head as a ghost. Everybody screaming and laughing.
Now that three of the original Morris kids have passed ( Joyce, Jess. and Etha) the family has grown in numbers however the memories and fun times are always precious moments to remember the special times together and the things the Morris family has taught us all. Faith, Family and Fun have always been strong Morris values and may each generation continue to pass them on!
Uncle Harold, Rodney, Debbie and Donnie may you hold onto these special times and memory's with Aunt Doris and may they bring you joy in a time of loss.
