I have fond memories of visiting my Uncle Clyde and Aunt Darlene when I was growing up. I remember the beautiful roses he grew and the pride he took in his home and yard. He and my mother Jean were close growing up and did many things together including getting in trouble. He was always kind and soft spoken, finding time to help others and work at the church on boards and ushering. I know that he and Darlene are having a wonderful reunion in heaven along with the rest of the family that have gone before.

I had the pleasure of sitting for an afternoon last year with my uncle Clyde.
He reminisced about his life and all he had seen and done. He recalled driving an open air car at age 12 through a thunderstorm in Minnesota the day they dropped his father at the train. His father was travelling to Rock Falls to scout out possible farms for the family.
He worked the summer of 1933 on the family farm driving horse teams from before dawn to night harvesting. He saved and was able to take a bus to the Chicago Worlds Fair.
He began basic training in World War II but was injured when he fell on his back with a 100 pound pack. When he returned to base after recuperating he found that his unit had shipped out the night before. His skills as a leader were recognized and resulted in him being named to lead the maintenace division at several different camps. He ensured that the motor pool vehicles, artillery, etc. were repaired and maintained.
After the Army he returned to the auto body repair business and later was a foreman at Franz Manufacturing. In the auto repair business he usually was on call, keeping the wrecker at home. On several occasions he rescued drivers and passengers, often arriving before the ambulance.

Denell and I had the privilege of living next door to Clyde and Darlene from 2008 to 2010, until we moved to Iowa. What a special couple! I would do anything for them they needed, not out of obligation, but out of care and respect for the couple. Clyde was a kind, loving man that will always have a special place in our hearts. We think of him and Darlene often and know they have found eternal peace in heaven.
