So sorry to hear about your mom. I have many happy memories of aunt Gaye from my childhood and it was so heartwarming to see her at Mom's 80th birthday. She will be missed and remembered always. May God bless you!

The residents at Hammett House were sure lucky to have Gaye for their cook! She made everything from scratch. The day after Thanksgiving, she made turkey pot pie. She turned vegetables into something special. Her brownies were famous! Many many holidays she spent cooking for the residents first, and her own family after. She was so kind to each and every resident, and they loved her. Rest well!

Aunt Gaye, Uncle Happy, & Jack Allen lived just down the road from us in Carrollton, Virginia. This is where Jack Allen was born. They lived in a tiny, tiny trailer. Aunt Gaye used to watch Van & I when Mama was working. We could walk between our homes. I loved having her nearby. She took me on my first Greyhound bus ride - when you stood out on the side of the road and the bus just stopped wherever someone was waiting. She taught me how to iron - starting with my Dad's hundred of handkerchiefs. I still have a Goldstone ring she bought for me from one of our neighbors. I loved staying with her. I missed her when she moved away and I will miss her even more now.

Aunt Gaye, I will never forget looking forward to doing rounds at Hammet House just to visit with you, your infectious laugh and great sense of humor. You were a blessing to so many people and will be truly missed. May you rest in peace forever. Love, Melissa
