Art Folkers was my mother's cousin. His mother and my mother's mother were sisters. When I began my work on the Dirks family history and genealogy some fifteen or twenty years ago, Art became my good friend and project champion. He sent a copy of a 1922 Dirks family reunion photo and identified everyone on it! He was amazing. He let me copy some of his photos and "stuff," and he cajoled his living cousins to contribute information and help. Every photo that I needed help with he identified all the people. And he cared about all of them, too, visiting them when they could no longer get out. Also amazing was that he was carving ducks in his basement, keeping his own house neat and tidy, driving his car, and getting together with his relatives. In his 90's! Whenever I went back to Illinois, I always looked forward to calling on Art. He was so charming. I had to be there when he turned 100, and it was a great occasion to meet even more of my extended cousin group. I am glad that Art had such a wonderful full life of good health and good cheer. Rest In Peace, Cousin!
