Diana, I remember in the beginning of your pregnancy you had to go to the hospital because you thought you might have miscarried. The next day you got back to me and said "They found the heartbeat!" and I was so happy for you. Even at just weeks along your little Bella was a fighter. And she remained a fighter all through the rest of your pregnancy and through her surgery. When I saw you at the clinic and you told me how well she did I thought to myself " Now that's a strong little girl!" And even though God has taken her to a place that you may not be able to reach now, remember that little Bella is still up there fighting and staying strong. But now it is for you and Jon. She will continue to work hard to give you the strength to make it through this time and to remind you each and everyday that she loves you. On days when either of you find it hard to be happy, if for no other reason, smile for Bella, because she will forever be watching down on you and would want nothing more than her mommy and daddy to find peace and happiness.

I wish I could wake from this nightmare at any moment. I look at these precious pictures of my beautiful niece and it's hard for me to believe I will never be able to kiss her chunky cheeks, love on her, hug her, hear the sound of her cry, be face to face with her, or snuggle beside her on a cold Christmas night. I hate that this has happened to her, it breaks my heart that this has happened to both of you, and I struggle not to resent that this happened to such a young innocent baby...but then I realize, even though I may not understand, there is a reason. Johnathan, mom would tell me how amazingly alert Bella was, how she would capture every moment; eyes wide open. She was so strong, stronger than many adults I know. Breezing through her birth with no complication even though Dianna had it much harder with a tremendously long labor. Bella was born premature and in fact born at an opportunistic time; yours and Dianna's moving weekend. It was soon after being born, that she was whisked off to the NICU where she appeared monstrous next to the others, weighing in at a whopping 7lbs 6oz. The nurses loved this and showed their joy by styling her cute little head with a different hat daily. Bella being full of surprises, also put the doctors on their toes when they found that her heart defects were much more complicated than they anticipated. Prior to surgery, Bella fought her de-saturation goals of 75% by staying above 85% giving the staff a run for their money. Then she rocked the Norwood procedure, recovering so quickly that once again, everyone was shocked at her progress and she was able to go home much quicker than anticipated. This says a lot about Bella. It is all of these things that make it difficult for us to comprehend why this has happened. It's so surreal. She was in tune with her surrounding and soaked up all that she loved especially every moment she had with the two of you! There are no answers as to why this has happened, there are no words to heal the pain you both feel. Beloved Bella will remain in peace for all eternity knowing that, although her time on here was short, her memory will remain in or hearts forever. Please know that my heart,thoughts and prayers are with the both of you even though I'm not physically able to be there to offer my support during this time. Love you!
