Obituary of Moises Cantu

STERLING - Mr. Moises "Cowboy" Cantu, Sr., 83, died Friday August 5, 2011 at his daughter's home in Belvidere. Moises Cantu was born June 20, 1928 in San Benito, TX, the son of Francisco and Juanita Cruz Cantu. He married Emilia Garcia in 1947 in Spur, TX and she preceded him in death on January 25, 2001. Moises Cantu, Sr. was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Sterling. He is survived by six daughters, Dora Brooks of Sterling, Anita (Jesse) Perez of Sterling, Joan (Manuel) Lemus of Mendota, Emilia (Carlos) Aceviz of Hampton, Estella (Javier) Ramirez of Belvidere, and Apolinar (Bonifacio) Marquez of Sterling; three sons, Moises Cantu, Jr., Ignacio (Adela) Cantu Sr, and Crispin (Lisa) Cantu all of Sterling; twenty-eight grandchildren; and twenty-four great-grandchildren. He was also preceded in death by three daughters, Juanita McCoy, and two daughters in infancy; and two brothers, Francisco Cantu and Rojelio Cantu. Mass of the Christian Burial will be at 11:30 AM Wednesday, August 10, 2011 at St. Mary's Catholic Church with Father Juan Ayala officiating. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery in Sterling. Visitation will be from 5-7 PM Tuesday evening at Schilling Funeral Home with a Rosary at 6:30 PM. Visitation will also be from 10:30-11:30 AM Wednesday at St. Mary's Catholic Church prior to the Mass of Christian Burial. A Memorial has been established in his name.
