GOLDIE BODNER
STERLING-Goldie Bodner, 95, longtime resident of Sterling, died Thursday, August 13, 2015 at Sterling Pavilion.
Goldie was born, October 10, 1919 in Oklee, MN, the daughter of Dreng and Anne (Aaknes) Rikje. She moved to San Francisco, CA with family and friends and worked there at a photography studio for a few years. She met her future husband, John there. When John got out of the Navy, they moved back to MN. They owned a tavern in Clearbrook, MN, for a few years. Their daughter Carole was born there. They ended up moving to IL, were they owned and operated a bar and restraunt in Oregon. She also worked at GE. Goldie loved working in her yard, mowing, tending to her lilac bushes and crossword puzzles.
Preceding her in death were her parents; husband John; daughter, Carole Whitstone; brothers, Albert, Aanund, Halvor, John and Olaf; sister, Gertrude Hamrey plus uncles, aunts, nephews and cousins.
She leaves behind to mourn her passing, grandson Greg Pope of Rock Falls; brother, Rikje (Hazel) of Sterling; sister, Beverly Milk of Sierra Vista, AZ and several nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be held at 1:30 PM Monday, August 17, 2015 at Riverside Cemetery, Sterling with Pastor Jeff Coester, pastor of The Big Red Church, First Congregational, Sterling. Visitation will be from 12:30 to 1:30 prior to the graveside on Monday, August 17, 2015.
