Joe and I are sorry to hear about the loss of Uncle Byron. We were talking to each other and remembering him; how friendly he was, easy to talk to and funny. Our family(Iben/Bartosiak) will truly feel the loss of this wonderful man. Prayers going out to you and your children for comfort and blessings. Linda & Joe

I will always have the fondest memories of Byron. He always had a smile and an encouraging word for me. Conversation was always easy and I appreciated his great sense of humor. He was one of my Mom and Dad's best friends and our families share a long history. Though I have been away from Sterling for over 40 years, whenever I would visit, Byron and I could talk as though I never left.
Elsie, Mel, Carol, and the entire Long family, your loss is great but I pray that God will comfort you in knowing that Byron is with Jesus, happy, and free of all pain. I look forward to conversations with him in the future.
God bless you,
Don Wade

Yes Byron was loved by many and was the ultimate Cardinals Fan. With my family being Cubs fans we used to banter back and forth... in love of course. One year when the Cardinals won the world series I told him that during the series I was rooting for the Cardinals just because of him. I then asked him if it was the Cubs in the WS would he have done the same for me. Without a hesitation he immediately answered "NOPE!" ( He used to always tell me his favorite team was the Cardinals and his second favorite team was any team that was playing the Cubs!) When our oldest son, an avid Cubs fan, got the news that Byron had passed, he warmed my heart by responding.
" The Cardinals have lost a great fan. I'll imagine a "BL" patch on the Cardinal players jerseys when I watch them play the Cubs!"
We all loved you Byron and you will be missed greatly!!

My sincere condolences to the Long family. Such great people and Byron was certainly one of the best. He was my Dad's (William Deter) best friend for many years. I have great memories of those two getting together and telling stories of days gone by. I am sure they are swapping stories now on the streets of heaven. God's best!

We are so sad to hear of your loss. Byron was such a wonderful person and Jack enjoyed all the years they worked together. So many wonderful memories through the years they worked for FS. Our children all remember him and all have stories of times with him whether it was in Galt where they used to load or at the bowling alley.
We saw him as a great husband and father and an example for all to follow. He certainly earned his heavenly home.
We live in South Texas now so will not be able to attend the service but you will all be in our thoughts and prayers.
