We were so sorry to learn of Jan's passing. We did not know her well, but she was a very loving person.
We will always remember ordering "Jan" sauce with our Chicken George. We have moved away from that area about 20 years ago but will always remember Candlelight Inn. A fond memory of both Jan and Bob.

Message to Mary Lou Johnson. Hi Mary Lou. So sorry to hear of the loss of your beautiful sister, Jan. Such a beautiful picture of her too. When your heart heals and you are feeling like chatting I would love to have you e-mail or call me and let me know how your life is going. Im living in Florida now. I moved down here 2 years ago and have never looked back. (even in these high humidity days.....) My Sister Barb talked about how lovely Jan and her husband were to her when the Sterling Community General was locking all the Nurses out and she needed a job. Prescotts gave her a job at the restaurant to carry her through. Im sure there are so many stories about their kindness as a couple. All you girls were gorgeous with beauty inside and out. Jan had a special way of bringing family together. Her fun loving presence made those around her feel special. Our Mom, Carol (Utter) Smith, and Jan were cousins. A favorite memory of mine with Jan was at my wedding. She and Joan wore wonderful hats to our event. They soon were known to our friends as the 'hat ladies' .and our friends were in no time their friends too.

Our deepest condolences to Bob and her entire family. She was the most positive person, always keeping an eye out for perfection in her restaurant. A beautiful lady inside and out. She helped so many with anything they needed. She was a wonderful neighbor and we are honored to have known her for so many years. She helped us with manpower to take our docks in and out every year, setting up the schedules and even if we weren't home she was there for us making sure the job was done correctly. My condolences to Bob and Matt and all of the Prescott family members. Jan hired me when I was sixteen years old as a carry-out girl at the Sterling Candlelight Inn. The Prescott family always treated me well and I'm forever grateful for the experience. I especially enjoyed helping Jan with the annual deep clean of Candlelight. She worked us hard but we had fun and she was always appreciative of the effort. Even all these years later, I still often think of my Candlelight days. Just last weekend I was at a restaurant that was full of empty tables (some stacked with dirty dishes) while many patrons impatiently waited by the door to be seated. I told my husband that would have never happened at Candlelight. Jan was a special lady and a total class act and I hope many happy memories give her family comfort. Megan

Bob and family,
We are so sorry for your loss. Jan was such as wonderful and generous person. She will be missed. Jim and I were just talking with Denny and Marg Stierwalt three days ago to try and find a time next week to drive to Sterling and visit with you and Jan.
