Debbie, Kim, Peggy, Greg and Darcy - So sorry to hear about your dad. I have many memories of your family: spending lots of time at your house, i.e., the "breezeway", Sunday morning carpools to St. Johns with the Goulds and Olsons, and Friday night basketball games at half-time filing into your dad's office in the field house with the adults, just to name a few... May your happy memories help you and your mom through the hard times. Hugs, thoughts and prayers to all of you.

Coach Dietz was a wonderful man who I fondly remember as my coach of the Sterling High School track team. Coach Dietz was also a tremendous example and role model for what it meant to be a man and I'm certain that the many young men whose lives he influenced through his coaching and teaching will both mourn his passing but also give thanks for the lifelong gifts he gave to them.
-- My most vivid memory and one of the things I admired most about him was his ability to be both strong and understanding. At the conference meet my senior year, I had the worst day of my athletic career. Instead of winning the discuss event, I scratched in all three attempts. I felt so bad, I just wanted to hide.
-- Afterwards, the Coach came up to me in the locker room. He could have chewed me out. I deserved it. He could have told me how I let him and the team down. I did. But instead. he put his arm around me and spoke to me in a comforting way. He knew exactly what I needed most.
-- Although he was a fierce competitor and leader, in that painful moment, he showed that he cared more about me than the points I had cost the team. In spite of his disappointment he was able to be a caring person and respond with empathy and support. He was a true teacher and coach who embodied the highest ideals of the profession. He was a great man and I am grateful to have known him.

Mrs. Dietz and the entire Dietz family, please, accept my condolences on the loss of your husband and father. He is truly a hero to my generation of SHS boys and girls. I will always remember him as tough but kind coach with encouraging words of advice and as a great role model. I always knew I had run a good race when I saw him walking towards me with that great big smile on his face- what a smile. There are so many stories that I could tell about my relationship with your dad as a young man growing up in Sterling. He will forever have a place in heart. Dave Henson Class of 1966

Dear Dad, first of all I can't believe you're really gone. Yes life has been different for you the past couple of years, but we continued to learn about strengh and determination while we witnessed you fighting this horrible Parkinson's disease. It may have taken your voice and mobility, but your spirit and love were strong right up to the very end. Over the years numerous people have told us that you made an impact on their life. Our hearts are filled with pride knowing that you had enough love inside you to share with us all. We want to thank you and Mom for teaching us what "true family" really is. Though our time together here was cut short, I trust you'll be guiding us from afar. We all love and miss you terribly, and you know that your loving and devoted bride will now channel her energies to helping others who need her. Til we meet again Dad....We Love You.
