SHERMAN L. LINDGREN
STERLING - Sherman L. Lindgren ("Swede"), 81, died Sunday morning, July 29, 2012, at Coventry Nursing Home after several months of declining health.
Sherman was born August 8, 1931, in rural Sunburg, MN to Lewis and Alma (Hagen)
Lindgren. He attended school in the Sunburg area. Sherman married Cora Bernice
(Tarbill) Lindgren on January 26, 1951. She preceded him in death in September,
1995.
At the age of 15, Sherman moved to Sterling and began work at Northwestern Steel
& Wire. He worked there most of his career, also delivering dairy throughout the area. In his spare time, Sherman raced snowmobiles for several years and owned his own business, "Swede's Snowmobiles" through the '90s. Sherman was quick with a joke, big-hearted and generous. He made an impact wherever he went and will be greatly missed.
Surviving are his daughter, Peg (Ralph) Romanelli, of Rock Falls; three granddaughters, Bryony (Rafael) Altamirano, of Glenview, Marisa Romanelli, of Kewanee, and Leah Romanelli, also of Rock Falls; his friend, Edie Gloden, of Dixon; four brothers Warren, Carmen, Gene, and Jimmie Lindgren of MN; and his sister, Joyce Marie (Charles) Monson of MN.
Sherman was also preceded in death by his parents, one sister and five brothers.
Services will be held at 10 AM, Saturday, August 4, 2012, at Schilling Funeral Home with the Pastor of Grace Episcopal Church, officiating. Burial will be at Oak Knoll Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 6-8 PM, Friday, August 3, 2012 at the Funeral Home.
A memorial has been established to the American Heart Association.
