Steve and I have good memories of fishing with Walt and his brother. We would take him on our pontoon on Prairie Lake, near Chetek Wi. We had to take Barb too of course. It gave us much pleasure to watch him catch fish. Big smiles always. He never went home with an empty net. Had a few diners and lunches with him also. He was always pleasant and a gentleman. Our love to Barb, Marcia and Larry. Pam and Steve Look

Walt was a wonderful neighbor and friend. He & Lois took my mother on many dinner outings, always followed by a drive enlivened by Walt's comments on everything we passed. I was hoping to see him again on my next visit to Sterling and am saddened to know that won't happen. Walt was a loving friend, father and husband. My love and condolences to Marcia, Barbara, Larry & family. Lori

My parents were good friends with Walt and Lois. They knew each other before moving to their houses in Sinnissippi and became close friends after that. Walt and Lois were always friendly to my family as well and we kept in touch. I remember friendly chats with them whenever being in town, and having dinner at their house with them. I always appreciated how they looked after my mother Violett since the passing of my Dad, Lyle over 25 years ago -- including stopping over, taking her out to dinner and Walt's making repairs for Mom. Things do change, but it's kind of sad -- like the end of an era. The houses are still there, but the people are not. However, I'm sure they are happy in some other place. And our pleasant memories remain. Sincerely and with Sympathy, Roger and Linda Eshleman

Dear Marsha, Barbara, and Larry, I was very sad to read of the passing of your Dad. Your Mom and Dad were such close and long time friends of our family. After my Dad died, your folks took Mom out to eat often, usually going on a drive afterwards, and invited her to their home for meals frequently as well. Their friendship meant so much to her. Mom would sometimes call Walt to help her out with something at her house, which he always did willingly. They kept an eye out for Mom if anything didn't look right at her house, and would call me to make sure Mom was okay, and I appreciated that. Walt kept in touch with me after moving to Avonlea, and I promised to stop and see him, but never made it, which I deeply regret now. I'm leaving for vacation on Aug. 17th, so won't be able to come to the funeral. Just know that I'd be there if I could. With love and affection, Joan E. Velde
