I just now (Oct 30, 2020) read this and would like to send my condolences to Jackie and her children (grown, I know!). John was a great guy! I always enjoyed talking with him. He always had a wonderful joke! Carrie and our Jeff were at Newman together And Jackie and I worked so hard on the Newman nexus dinner committee; I so appreciated getting to know her and John: wonderful, intelligent people! I am hoping that Jackie will contact me if she gets this! May God bless you all!!! Sincerely!!! Penny Schopp 815-632-1042

Jaquie, I just read John’s obit today and am so sorry I missed the visitation. He was always such a gentleman and kind every time I met with him and you also. Your family has been and will be in my prayers. Stay strong and know God had and has a deep love for you all.
Sincerely, Bret

Dear Aunt Jacquie, Kathy, Kristi, Kari and Jimmy, Uncle John was always a role model for me. His zest for life, his mischievous streak, his sense of humor, his focus on and love for his family, and his pride in being a U.S. Marine were all things that I aspired to emulate throughout my life. One of my earliest memories of Uncle John was when he brought a gift to our house in Maywood (I think it was for my birthday); it was a Vertibird Helicopter. I remember that he was so excited about the Vertibird that we set it up right inside of the front door and then we, mostly Uncle John :-) played with it for hours. Uncle John always had the coolest toys (juke boxes, slot machines, pinball machines, etc) and loved to play with them as much as we did. He was the uncle every kid dreamed to have. Between him and Uncle Jim, we were quite spoiled. Later, I loved the way that Uncle John and I would talk about the Marine Corps, and what he was doing with the local detachment, especially Toys for Tots. I was so incredibly proud when he came to my change of command in North Carolina and retirement in Germany; people in Stuttgart still remember my Uncle John. Though I can't be there in person to say farewell with you, please know that I will be there in spirit. Tomorrow evening I'll sit down with a glass (maybe two) of Tullamore Dew and will remember one of the greatest men I've ever known, I'll thank God for the privilege of having him in my life, I'll think of all of you, I'll think of Uncle John together again with Mom, Grandma and Grandpa, and I'll toast your husband/dad. Semper Fidelis, Marine - I love you.

Aunt Jacquie , Kathy, Kristi , Kari and Jimmy,
We are so sorry for your loss! We understand this loss has been with you a long time. We are both Honored you were able to Share our Special Day with us! The flotation devise Uncle John gave us for the kids safe in the water still hangs in the Garage. It’s my guide when to stop!!! For me Uncle John was more then your average Uncle. After our dad passed away he was a father figure for many years!! The ups and way downs... He and you Aunt Jacquie were always there! Kathy, Kristi, Kari and Jimmy, From the bottom of my heart Thank You for sharing this Amazing Father and Uncle with me... Much Love to All
