GLORIA F. CUMMINGS
STERLING - Gloria F. Cummings, 69, died at her home on Friday, December 24, 2010. She was born on September 4, 1941 in Rochelle, the daughter of Eugene and Velma Ledin Plumb. She was employeed by Sterling School District as a librarian for twenty-nine years, serving both Coleta Grade School and Challand Middle School.
Mrs. Cummings was a member of Bethel Reformed Church in Sterling, and the Sterling-Rock Falls Community Service Club.
Gloria Cummings married Richard Ankney in 1961. She later married James Cummings in 1990. He preceded her in death on March 24, 2004.
Gloria was affectionately called Granny Go Go by her grandsons. She enjoyed traveling, playing cards, visiting with her extended family, and attending her grandchildren's musical performances and sporting events.
She is survived by two daughters, Cathy (Mike) Filippi of Rock Falls and Tina (Karl) Vandermyde of Dunlap; three step-daughters, Sue Williams of Gilbert, AZ, Barb Bell of Freeport, Karen (Lucas) Blum of Tacoma, WA; one step-son, Steve (Toni) Cummings of Des Plaines; four sisters, Velma (Bill) Dysart of Crystal Lake, Patricia Wilson of Seoul, Korea, Marilyn Milroy of Evanston, and Carolyn (George) Brooks of Dixon; one brother Phil (Carolyn) Plumb of Dixon; her mother-in-law Lola Cummings of Freeport; two grandsons, Peter and Jacob Vandermyde; and three step-grandchildren Christopher and Samantha Cummings, and Kelsey Berry.
She was preceded in death by her son James Ankney, her parents, and one sister Virginia Eisele.
A celebration of Gloria's life will take place at Bethel Reformed Church, 230 E. 23rd Street, Sterling on Tuesday, December 28, 2010 with the Reverend Kenneth Zuithoff officiating. Visitation will be from 10-11 AM prior to the Memorial Service at 11 AM at the church. A gathering for family and friends will take place at the church after the service.
