Obituary of Bernice Zimmerman

BERNICE EILEEN ZIMMERMAN STERLING - Bernice Eileen Zimmerman, 78, died Thursday, September 1, 2011 at OSF St. Anthony Medical Center in Rockford. She was a beautician for over 50 years and owned and operated Hair Design I. Bernice was born November 19, 1932 in Dixon, the daughter of Edward and Tamma (Janssen) Gerdes. She married Lyle Zimmerman on June 23, 1957 in Dixon. Bernice was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church and was active in the church and church council. She loved her worked and enjoyed all her customers. Bernice was a big Bears fans. She liked making grandma's famous square cookies. She was a very dear wife and mother. Survivors include her husband, Lyle; two sons, Lyle (Deb) Zimmerman, of Highland Park, and Larry Zimmerman, of McHenry; one daughter, Teri Pickett, of Roscoe; one sister, Bernadine (Don) Giese, of Franklin Grove; one brother, Bud (Corrine) Gerdes, of Dixon; four grandchildren, Joshua, Jacob and Jenna Pickett and Jayde Zimmerman; and special "coffee" friend, Mary Jo Adler. She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Everett, Art and Cliff Volk; and a son-in-law, Ken Pickett. Services will be held at 10:30 AM, Wednesday, September 7, 2011 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Rock Falls with Reverend Henrietta Milner, officiating. Visitation will be from 5-8 pm, Tuesday, September 6, 2011 at Schilling Funeral Home, Sterling. Cremation rites have been accorded A memorial has been established.
